Naming a dog is just one of those “chores” that rescue people have to do. Usually we have a list, and the female dog gets the next girl name, and the name may or may not fit her personality. In this case, Sugar Pie came with her name, and we are here to tell you that she couldn’t have a name that would suit her better! You can just imagine her in this idyllic Southern setting: A “mature” woman is sitting on her back porch, sipping a glass of sweet ice tea. She calls out to Sugar Pie, who is checking out the latest doin’s under the “pee-can” tree. “Sugar Pie, dahling, come to mama.” Sugar Pie trots up to the porch, settles on the bed next to the chair, and nestles her head into “mama’s” lap to get some lovin’.

Does this sound like what you are looking for? Then apply for Sugar Pie today! This charming gal lives to be with, and please, her humans. She gets along with other dogs and even cats, but humans really are her thing, which given the way she was treated in the past is quite amazing. She and her dog buddy we kept in a back yard, tied to a tree. During a thunderstorm one night her buddy was so scared that he wrapped himself so tightly around the tree that he choked to death. We don't know how long the two of them were there before a good Samaritan neighbor stepped in and took her in.

Sugar Pie is very quiet, loves to sleep with you or in a bed next to yours, knows the doggie door, and walks well on a leash. She is current on all shots and has been spayed and had a dental. She is a very low heartworm positive with no microfilaria, but because of her age we have chosen not to put her through the very harsh heartworm treatment. She is receiving monthly doses of Heartgard, which will eventually kill off all of the adult worms that she has, and of course it prevents her from developing any new baby worms. In the meantime, you would never know that there is anything wrong with her - she has a great combination of spunk and love that she gives to anyone that she meets. You just can't help but fall in love with her.
