Heartworm Prevention is given on the 14th of each month

Max is a great little dog.  He is super smart, very sweet and loving.  He is a little on the high energy side, but he is still, at a little over one year old, still a puppy. So really, he is probably just slightly above average and Pixi is about the same with her energy level and he is just about a month older than her.  He is very house-trained and hasn't peed or pooped in our home since the day he arrived.  He learned the dog door without us even showing it to him.  We never have to tell him to go do his business, as he just handles it himself when he needs to. If an adopter doesn't have a dog door I don't know how he would handle telling them when he needs to go.  He pees a little more like a female than a male as he doesn't really even hike his leg.  First time I saw it I thought that was interesting.  He loves to go on walks and gets a bit over-enthusiastic about it, but I have been working with him to calm down when it is time to go and get his vest/harness on.  He came with one and it works well.  He pulls just a little but I think with time and some work that will subside.  He does bark at times at other dogs or people he sees along the way, even though he is walking with a pack of dogs already.  Something else that I think will dissipate with time and some training. He needs to go to a home that has at least one other dog that he can play with.   Now when he and Pixi and Evie play it might sound like it's aggressive at times, but it is just the sound they all make when they play.  He does have a problem of jumping to greet you and jumping off the back of the couch and chairs that needs some work, but we try to keep him off of those areas as much as we can or get him to get down properly.  He has a little longer legs than a normal dachshund.  Not sure where those came from so guess he is mixed with something else.  He does like to sit in your lap at times and get belly rubs and head rubs or just lie there and cuddle.  He also likes to sit by himself at times after playing or when we are watching TV.  He is a bit on the food aggressive side so we use a slow down bowl to try to slow his eating and to keep him occupied while the others eat as he does try to get others food now and then if they are still eating and he has finished. We basically keep and eye out when it is feeding time for all the dogs.  Others try to get food too.  I have been able to teach him to sit for treats and to sit some while waiting to get his harness on for walking so some progress has been made in a few training areas.  Again, he is super smart.  He loves playing outside in the yard.  He has been sleeping on the loveseat in Mom's bedroom and we have never crated him so I don't know how he would be in a crate.  He will go into the open crates we have and lie down and rest at times, but the doors are always open.
