Heartworm Prevention is given on the 1st of each month

UPDATE: 

Maddie had a very hard year end in 2017.  In the fall (Nov. 2017) , she was hit by a car and badly injured. She was found and taken the  Fort Worth Animal shelter where staff bandaged her, gave her pain pills and then reached out to rescue. Local volunteers were able to get out of the shelter that day and to be examined by a vet to determined what could be done for her. It did not look good. Maddie had a gaping wound at her groin and abdomen area. It was determined that surgery was not possible at that time, due the size of wound and lack of healthy flesh around the area. She was given hydrotherapy and medication to make her comfortable. It was hoped that she would heal enough that surgery could be done in a few weeks. At first it was touch and go , but with addition hydrotherapy sessions provided by CTDR , Maddie’s wounds started to heal and close. Within a month all were closed and new skin growing. Both foster and vet staff were amazed. Particularly when you saw before and after pictures. This is when Maddie’s  true personality came out. During the first weeks in foster all she did was lay in her kennel and be carried outside to do her “toilet”. Now she was a small ball of energy and affection. She loved being held and  touched.  She had a wonderful Christmas and the New Year look bright.   Maddie was adopted early in the new year    and had begun a new life.   CTDR is still not sure what happened due to shifting stories. Her new family had her tail amputated   , but during surgery Maddie seems to have sustained nerve damage. This damage caused her problems with elimination. Hew new family then decided they did not want her anymore and returned her to CTDR in late Feb. 2018. Maddie has healed and re- learned how to eliminate on her own. She also became nurse and physical therapist to another foster “Princess” who had been hurt and down in her back. With Maddie’s help and encouragement Princess was soon walking again and was adopted in May 2018. Maddie is now hoping to find her own “Forever Home”.   We believe, she is a dachshund/Min pin mix, that without her tail looks like a tiny Doberman Pincher. She has the attitude to match and is protective of her home and family from strangers, canine or human. Maddie will bark and warn you. But don’t be fooled, she becomes a little loving doll when picked up and held. UPDATE:  Maddie has found herself back in Rescue after being returned by her adopters.  According to vet records, Maddie started chewing and ended up injuring her tail resulting in a tail amputation.  She has not regained total ability to urinate and poop on her own but is undergoing laser therapy and medication therapy. 

Maddie is a sweet little girl who had been hit by a car and taken to a local North Texas shelter.  She is undergoing wound therapy at her foster home and has started walking now that she is medication to help with the swelling.  She will need a few weeks to recover from her injury and then she will be ready for her forever home.
