Rider came into a local shelter first part of November.
He was hairless and skinny and only a baby of 4 months of age.
No one came for Rider so CTDR agreed to take this little one into their program.
Rider has had a very rough start to live as he had manage, and he got sick with fever right after getting out of the shelter, taking Rider to the vet on the first Saturday we had him to see what was wrong.
He tested positive for Parvo.
Little Rider had to stay in the clinic/hospital part and was put on I.V. fluids and meds right away. He seemed to get better very fast and seemed like a totally different dog 24 hours later and was allowed to go home.
Just a week later he spiked a fever of 105 and he once again was kept and watched carefully.
48 hours later he was back home and flying up and down the halls in the house.
He was hungry finally eating a great deal and acted like a normal puppy finally.
He had Demodex mange and was treated for this with Nexgard.
First month on that we could see a huge difference but the second month even more.
He was a chocolate baby.
He has now taken his 3rd dose of nextgard
and he has almost a complete coat of the most beautiful chocolate color you could imagine.
He has now been neutered, microchipped and given Rabies and all 3 Parvo shots. Rider learned the doggie door within days of being in his foster home. He lives with other dogs big and small and plays rough as they will play with him.
His favorite wrestling partner is the Boston Terrier in the household.
He can almost always be found with her and also likes to play with the Labradoodle.
However he still gravitates to the other two Dachshunds in the house.
When all are sleeping he is normally on a dog bed with his two foster sister Dachshunds…Shelby another CTDR foster in the same home seems to have taken on the Mother role with him.
She gets him down and tells him to settle down several times a day.
He seems to know she means it too. Little Rider has a great set of ears on him, they make him look very funny and happy looking.
Rider does sleep in the bed at night and he is serious about his sleeping.
He turns over and is out like a light and doesn’t move all night long.
He rides well in a car, and walks decent on a leash.
Eats like a champ, and is house trained.
(Doggie door) But loves to go outside with the other dogs and his foster mom.
Things to remember about Rider is to make sure the toilet tissue is never hanging down, He loves to tear it off and pull it through the house.
He thinks it is great fun.Never leave your shoes on the floor and expect them to be there later.
Paper or news papers or magazines, he will make a homecoming float out of those so keep them up… He does best with younger dogs, as the older dogs in the house get a bit tired of him. So keep that in mind depending on your pets you have now.Rider is ready for his one on one family and can’t wait to become your little dog.
He is just a little over 10 pounds and should not be any larger than this.
