Lily came to us a very timid but loving little girl. She was lame in one leg and in much pain from the Valley Fever infection that had progressed as far as her lungs and joints, and was on a lot of pain medications. The first few months we had her were a trying time for all of us, as it was hard to see such a sweet girl in so much pain, and need to be confined. When we finally figured out what was medically wrong with her, we started to see that there was a light at the end of the tunnel, and couldn’t wait for her to start responding to the medication. Luckily within a month of so of treatment, Lily’s energy and mood started to dramatically improve. Her limp disappeared, her labored breathing cleared up, and you could tell she was no longer in pain. She was quickly house trained, and then was spoiled by the installation of a doggie door and ramp system that allowed her unfettered access to our fenced yard. For the last 6 months she has been symptom free, and has spent her days sunning herself on the porch, chasing squirrels, playing fetch and making sure we never miss the arrival of a delivery person. She goes with us everywhere, and gets showered with attention at cafes, farmer’s markets and even on our daily walks around the neighborhood. She has always loved every man, woman or child who has crossed her path, but she has become incredibly loyal to my husband and me. Her original timid demeanor has been replaced by a strong sense of confidence. We can’t imagine our lives without this little girl, and are so glad that CTDR was able to step in and give her the treatment she needed to save her life. We’re happy that after more than a year of treatment for Valley Fever, her condition is finally stable enough for her to be cleared for adoption. We’re so excited to officially include her as part of our forever family!
