Meet Red! Red is a dachshund mix with the sweet face of a doxie but longer legs (the better for jumping in the air when he's excited - at mealtime he seems to be part kangaroo!). He resembles a teeny hound dog mixed with a dachshund. Red is a sweet, quiet, chill dog who has lived peacefully for the last few months with a smaller dachshund friend. He gets along great with other dogs, is housetrained, finds walking on a leash to be a big treat, and hardly ever barks. His interests include chasing chew toys, staring at squirrels in trees, and long naps on the couch. Red had a rough start and was rescued from an abusive home two years ago, but after a long stay with a loving foster home, he is very affectionate. While shy at first, he attaches quickly to his family. Because of his past he needs gentle corrections rather than stern words and would do best in a home without small children, but he is a sweet loving dog for the right home.
If there's ever a dog that deserves a loving home, it would be Red. This poor pup came from a neglectful and abusive past, so we are searching for just the right family as his fur-ever home. While initially cautious towards strangers, Red adores his people. However, he can be fearful of men due to his previous experiences. He has never shown any aggressiveness and is always eager to please, so it doesn't take much to show this pup what you'd like for him to do. Gently corrections are the way to go with Red and his high food-motivation makes training much easier. He LOVES his kennel and you'll usually find him lounging in it with a squeaky toy or two (or all of them). Speaking of toys, Red has some resource guard issues, so gentle and patient correction is needed to show him he doesn't need to worry about his toys being taken. He also has a habit of sometimes taking other dog's food, so it would be best for him to be watched if he's fed with another dog or just fed separately. Red does wonderfully on a leash and greets other dogs and people in a friendly manner. He may do well in a home with one other dog, but slow and supervised intros are a must! While Red loves the company of his people, he doesn't seem to really care for playtime, as he'd rather just sit and contentedly chew on his squeaky toy next to you. While he may get along with other dogs and adults, he would do best in a home without other non-canine pets and children under the age of 10. Dog-savvy older children are welcome, as he will need lots of love, patience, and proper guidance from the whole family to help him flourish into the pup he was always meant to be. Are you that special someone that's the perfect match for this hard-knock-life pup?
