Rocky was found as a stray in the North Texas area and was taken to a local shelter where he waited for his family to come and get to take him back home.  When that did not happen, CTDR was contacted and there was no way we were going to let a senior gentleman spend one more night on a cold shelter floor.  He is a super sweet, very smart dog.  He has fit right in with the crowd here.  At the initial meeting, they all barked at him and he just stood there and took it all in.  Didn't bark back at all, which was quite impressive.  He found the dog door and began using it right away.  He is a foodie for sure.  But most dachshunds are.  He is always ready for his meals and has learned treat time very quickly.  He adapted to sleeping in the crate overnight and found a chair to call his own.  He spends most of his time in "his" chair when we are in the house but loves to play in the yard with the rest of the gang.  He is slowly showing more interest in the other dogs, but kind of kept to himself the first few days he was with us.  We had not even had him a week and he fit right into the routine here without a hitch.  He does like to lay on the top of the back of the couch at times, but we are discouraging that.  He loves to go on walks and is the first in line when I say it is walking time.  He walks well with a halter and a leash.  He is definitely house trained, however he loves to mark anything he can find in the backyard or on a walk.  He had to have been well taken care of at some point.  He is well behaved, knows his name and follows directions.  Coming to our home full of dogs was an easy transition for him.  He has been progressively showing more interest in being next to someone, but doesn't have an interest in being in a lap.  Just by your side.  He does like belly rubs, but what dog doesn't. He also knows the sit command and off.  I haven't really tried any other of the basic training commands. I have given him baths with no issues what so ever.  He really is a super easy going dog and would transition well into any home. He is a quick learner so he will learn the habits and surroundings of a new forever family and home quite easily. I do not know how he would interact with other pets besides dogs.  I also can't attest to how he would be with children, but again, based on the behavior I have witnessed so far, I think he would be friendly with any age human.  I have been very impressed with him and how seamlessly he fit in here which leads me to believe he would fit in wonderfully into any home. So if you are looking for a loving, well behaved, smart dog that will fit seamlessly into your home, please consider making Rocky your forever pet.  I promise you won't regret it.  Just simply a great dog.
