Little Red is doing great in her foster home. She is a very loving dog and wants to be with her favorite person as much as possible. She will do best in a home where she does not need to be left alone for extended periods of time on a regular basis. She is very much a lap dog and craves attention. She will "talk" to you, asking for your attention. She is crate trained and house trained, but she does need to get outside at least every couple hours when she is not in her crate or she might pee in the house. Although she likes to be in a lap or next to someone as much as possible during the day and evening, she hops into her crate willingly at bedtime and stays there quietly through the night. She gets excited for walks every morning and evening, but a relatively short walk is enough to make her happy. She enjoys exploring grassy areas and bushes when out for a walk. She might bark a little at other dogs, but she settles down quickly.
Little Red gains weight easily, so her food intake needs to be carefully regulated. She has recently lost some weight and will soon be down to an appropriate weight of 15 to 16 pounds for a standard dachshund. Little Red continues to get along well with her foster brother dogs. She is a bit possessive of bones. It seems like she would do just fine as an only dog, but she has done fine with the two other dogs in her foster home.
Little Red gets a little nervous around small children, and would do best in a home with no kids or older kids. There are two teenagers and a pre-teen in her foster home, and she is fine with all of them although she does prefer the adults in the home.
Overall, Little Red is a great companion and will be a fantastic dog for someone who is willing to give her the attention she needs.
