LEGEND is a very happy, very playful, very energetic little boy! He is a small "Mini" with a beautiful short red coat! He only weighs about 9-10 pounds! Legend is a very stocky, muscular little boy that will wiggle his way into your heart! His tail and his butt wags, non-stop, 24 hours a day! He even wags his tail when he is asleep! He is well mannered and knows basic good doggie manners, such as Sit and Stay, and Down! He has had No potty accidents inside and if you are busy, he will "hold it" until you offer to go outside. When he REALLY needs to go outside to do his business, he goes to the door and makes a "fuss" so he gets your attention that he needs to go potty, NOW! He walks pretty good on a leash and likes to sniff and explore every tree and bush and to greet any person that comes near.
I think his middle name is "Ball"! He really LOVES his ball! He carries it around, he chases it, he throws it for himself, he rolls it for himself, he tries to get you to throw it and to roll it, he sleeps with it, he wants it nearby when he eats! He is very "ball" motivated! If he can't find his ball, he will hunt and hunt for it, and if he really can't find it, will settle for a stuffie to carry around! He loves his people and greets you with a energetic tail wag, a smile on his face, he lays his ears back, and will give you a couple of kisses! He is not a big kisser, but will give you a few and then will settle back and let you love on him. He loves to have his tummy and chest rubbed, and will growl and whine and wiggle to get you to either start the scratching or to continue if you stop! He is very vocal and loves to carry on a conversation with you! He has quite the vocabulary! Legend likes to watch TV and bark and whine at the characters!
He recently had a slight muscular back injury and was on crate rest, for a couple of months! Now he wants Nothing to do with a crate, and who can blame him after being cooped up for 60 days? While in his crate on rest, he was a little bit destructive with his blanket and a little picky with his food bowl. Since being released from confinement, he has not shown any destructive behavior at all. The blanket chewing, and turning his food bowl over, was probably due to boredom and him showing his displeasure at having to be "locked up". At this time, when he is placed in a crate, he throws his body against the sides of the crate, and whines and cries until released. But since Legend is reliably house trained and non destructive, he doesn't need a crate.
LEGEND is a little bit of a Drama King, and will whine and cry and make a fuss if he is not allowed to be with his People! Legend LOVES his people and wants to be with them as much as possible. He follows you around but is good at getting away from your feet so he is not stepped on. He sleeps quietly under the covers in the big bed next to his People, and if required, will sleep on his doggie bed next to the big People bed. He does have the typical Doxie personality and is stubborn and can be head strong. He can be demanding when he wants attention, and will need a firm owner to tell him "No", and to show him the rules of the house. He is very intelligent and quickly learns what is expected of him, but will try to push the boundaries a little bit when it comes to him getting attention. He is currently back on straight, dry kibble, and will eat it without anyone having to put water on the hard kibble, which is best for keeping his teeth clean. His gait is strong and sure now. He had a little bit of a wobble when he walked, but that has cleared up and may have been just some weakness caused by lack of use while he was on Kennel rest.
Little Legend is a small Doxie with a very big personality! He is a great friend and companion to his people and only wants a little love and attention in return, and some ball tossing! He doesn't eat much or take up much room. He is not messy and doesn't lie, cheat or steal. So, Okay, he might steal the ball, but that is all! He is looking for a home and a people that will love him for the rest of his life. He will make the commitment to be your Doxie for the rest of his life. Can you make that commitment to be his People for the rest of his life? Fill out the application and meet Little Legend.
UPDATE: 11-20-2012 Legend is now off strict crate rest but needs to be kept in a small confined area so that he can gradually get back into his normal routine of just being a dog.
This is Legend, he is a 3 year old, red with some black, mini, male, weighing 12 lbs. Since September he was in the care of the vet clinic for a month. Now he’s on crate rest in foster care since October 21st due to back problems. He does wobble a little on his hind legs when he walks and is full of energy, so walking is a tough task for this little guy, since he wants to run so bad. He loves balls, stuffed animals and chewies in his crate. He is not allowed anything plastic, like squeekies because he chews them. He eats well in his crate, but can get distracted easily when eating if toys are around, so he has to be watched when eating in order to finish his meal. He will not finish his meal if left unattended; he will actually tip over his food bowl. He also likes his food slightly coated with a very small amount (teaspoon) of water; otherwise he will not eat at all. He does chew blankets that are in his crate if they are made of a soft material. He has successfully made a snowflake out of the blanket that is currently in his crate. He is housetrained and is very good at going potty. His top priority is potty over food; he has to be taken out before he can eat. He will pull on the leash very hard when he goes for walks so his harness is important because he needs the support. He is protective of his crate if a stranger puts their fingers up to it. He loves his crate, but if he is missing out on fun with another puppy outside of the crate, he gets very upset and will bite at the crate. This little guy is super sweet and loves belly rubs, does not like to be held that long or that much, but will give kisses if you pick him up. He does not bark that much and when he does it’s not a very loud bark, but it is an important bark. One last thing that is a unique trait of his, he loves to have a conversation with you. If you say “Hi Legend” and proceed to do baby talk with him, he will do a bark, squeal, and wine combination along with a howl. He can go back and forth for a long time until you stop. He goes with your tone of voice too, so if you talk low, he whines sort of low, if you talk with a high pitch, he talks loud, etc. It’s the cutest thing in the world, so anyone who wants this little guy, be prepared to hold a highly intelligent conversation.
